“The Young Talent” is the first program in Poland dedicated to the development of talent in the mining industry. For two years, selected graduates are to go through four stages of work in different areas of the company, and also in its foreign branches and subsidiaries. During each rotation, ambitious projects are carried out, getting the interns ready to work for KGHM. Trainings and a dedicated mentoring program have been also provided for the participants. At each stage of the program, tutors and mentors evaluate the work and development of the participants. This assessment will be crucial in offering them a position in the future. Mentors include representatives of top executives – presidents and directors of KGHM.
The recruitment process for the program is multi-stage and was launched in February this year. The last interviews with the applicants were conducted in June. Participants of the Talent Mine have a unique opportunity to begin a professional career in KGHM, explore and develop one of the world's largest mining companies.
“Welcome to the KGHM family. The Young Talent is the only project of this kind in Poland” said Wojciech Kędzia, Vice President and COO of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., to the participants at the launch of the project. “The Company has 50 years of experience and is a global enterprise that is constantly expanding. We are sharing our knowledge and experience with you and in return we expect energy and an uncompromising attitude when executing tasks.”
Over the next two years the participants are going to deal with tasks and projects prepared by tutors and mentors. Each participant is going to receive tasks from the area in which their tutor works, related not only to the faculty of the studies they graduated from.
“Ahead of us are two years of intensive work. When we were creating the Young Talent program with my team, I did not realize how quickly it would speed up” said Anna Wróbel, HR Executive Director at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
Paweł Karpeta, a participant of the 2013 edition of The Young Talent, who graduated from the University of Economics in Wrocław, is happy to have the opportunity to work for KGHM: “There are many areas in which we can develop. The size of the company and the complexity of processes are a big surprise for me”.
The first edition of the program, which began in 2012, is halfway through. Three members of this group have already been employed in the Sierra Gorda project in Chile.
KGHM is looking for highly motivated, dynamic, energetic graduates, who are open to new challenges and willing to expand and absorb knowledge in different fields. Being able to communicate and collaborate with people from different cultures and from the highest levels of management will be undoubtedly a huge asset of a graduate. Fluency in English is required; command of Spanish will also be a welcome asset. The next edition of the Young Talent is going to begin early next year.
