At the site, earthworks around the stadium have been completed and the building where the youth teams’ locker rooms were located for many years will soon be demolished. In addition to the demolition of the aforementioned buildings, the earthen embankments surrounding the field have also disappeared from the site, without disturbing the trees growing there.
“As the owner and sponsor of KGHM Zagłębie Lubin, we focus on the development of the facilities for our athletes, both those on whom the strength of the team depends, and talented young people. The club’s alumni, who strengthen the potential of the entire Polish football, provide reasons to be proud. The new training facilities, including the stadium that meets the requirements of the Second League, the sports arena, and the modernized Zagłębie’s main arena, are investments that will help further raise the sports level and create the next generation of Polish representatives of various age categories,” said Tomasz Zdzikot, the CEO of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
Michał Kielan, the President of KGHM Zagłębie Lubin added that the investment projects are planned to be performed in two stages.
“First, a stadium with fully covered stands will be built, where KGHM Zagłębie Lubin’s second team will play its games. An arena will then be built for use by both the players of the senior team and the young trainees of the KGHM Zagłębie Football Academy,” said Michał Kielan.
The club intends to select a contractor for the miners’ stadium by the end of September. A facility that meets the requirements of the Second Football League, including a heated pitch, is to be built within 20 months. The investment project for the new sports arena is expected to begin in 2025. There, the players will have a full-size field, a gym, and wellness facilities. Stands with 250 seats are also planned.
KGHM Zagłębie Lubin’s next plans are to change the name and facade of its main stadium. Later this year, an illumination and the inscription “KGHM Arena” will be installed there. The replacement of chairs for fans will begin in September. All new elements will be in the club’s colors: orange, white, and green.
The Mining Stadium in Lubin was built in 1972. In 2021, Zagłębie managed to buy back the facility from the State Treasury for PLN 1.7 million. The total cost of the new investment project is estimated at around 40 million zlotys. The construction of the complex will be possible, among other things, thanks to the financial support under the “Football Infrastructure Development Program - 2022 edition.”
