The questionnaires of the engagement survey conducted at the end of 2022 were completed by as many as 71.3 percent of employees of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
“At KGHM, we find it important to be both efficient at work and engaged in, among other things, volunteering programs and helping those in need. The participation rate in the surveys shows that our employees are actively involved in life and have a great deal of sensitivity and definitely want to get involved in helping the residents of the Copper Belt,” said Tomasz Zdzikot, the CEO of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
The money collected thanks to the surveys went to the Legnica, Polkowice, and Lubin districts, the city of Legnica, and the “Have a Family” Association of Foster Families from Polkowice.
“The results achieved in the engagement survey make us happy for two reasons. On the one hand, we managed to encourage employees to express their opinions, and on the other hand, we were able to support charitable activities. In this way, each questionnaire filled out brought two benefits: information of great importance to the employer, which will help improve the work environment, and real support for those in need,” said Marek Makuch, the General Manager for Human Resources Management at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
KGHM employee engagement surveys have been conducted since 2021. They take the form of anonymous surveys conducted in three versions available in a paper form, online, and on a smartphone. They have resulted in the launch of, among others, several development projects, for example the “KGHM Giants Academy" and two editions of the “Copper Leaders” postgraduate study program. An employee benefit program has also been launched, which involves psychological support for the staff and their families, as well as psychological workshops for managers.
In its pro-social activities, KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. is involved in, among other things, foster care. The company has initiated the “Have a Family” campaign to find foster parents for the youngest residents of the Copper Belt The campaign involved all district-level local governments in the Copper Belt, as well as other organizations in the region.
The scale of the company’s pro-social activities in the Copper Belt is huge. The awards received by KGHM last year include recognition in the prestigious nationwide “Trustworthy Employer” competition. KGHM won the award in the “Education” category for its activities and cooperation with institutions, schools, and organizations involved in science, training, and education of young people. The company was also recognized for its programs carried out together with local governments in the Copper Belt to support education and the family, as well as projects to combat depression.
KGHM also runs a school sponsorship program called “Competent in Mining and Metallurgy” that includes nine secondary schools in the Copper Belt. Young people from those schools gain practical knowledge in modern workshops equipped by the company. The activities also include internships at KGHM divisions, and the best students have a chance to receive scholarships.
