Joint assistance at KGHM. Employees once again join the ‘Doughnut with noble filling’ campaign

For more than a decade, Fat Thursday at KGHM has combined pleasure with helping. ‘Doughnut with noble filling’ is one of the most recognisable charity initiatives in the Copper Belt. Thousands of employees of KGHM and the companies of the KGHM Group once again demonstrate that solidarity and mutual support are among the most important values at KGHM. On this special day, in exchange for a doughnut, employees make donations for the treatment and rehabilitation of their colleagues’ sick children.

‘Doughnut with noble filling’ is an initiative that shows how strong the community is at KGHM. Thanks to the commitment of thousands of people, Fat Thursday takes on a new and better meaning at our company It is a day of mutual care and real help for our colleagues. Volunteers work from the morning

The ‘Doughnut with noble filling’ charity event is already a regular feature in KGHM's calendar. For more than 10 years, the company’s employees have come together to support the treatment and rehabilitation of children from families in their community. Nearly 100 volunteers from all KGHM divisions are involved in this year's edition. They have been coordinating the collection and distribution of doughnuts since the early hours of the morning, making sure that everyone can contribute to the common goal.

Last year, thanks to the generosity of KGHM’s employees, nearly PLN 180,000 was collected, and in the year before that the sum was nearly PLN 150,000. All of these funds went to families of children in need.

Helping without a calorie limit

Nearly 19,000 doughnuts are waiting for those willing to buy them today at 29 distribution points located in KGHM divisions. Although that is a total of more than 7 million calories, no one counts them on Fat Thursday - it is the helping that counts. The money from this year’s collection will go to five ill children from KGHM employees’ families:

• Maria (10 years old), Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Facility

She was born with a cataract,  microphthalmus and a dermoid tumour of the right eye. She also suffers from hearing impairment. Rehabilitation and treatment allow her to be more independent.

• Szymon (7 years old), Głogów Copper Smelter

The boy has a very serious heart defect that affects the functioning of his entire body. He requires ongoing rehabilitation and specialised care.

• Karol (11 years old), Głogów Copper Smelter

He suffers from impaired psychomotor development and serious neurological conditions. He needs support with daily activities such as eating and walking.

• Nela (2 years old), Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Facility 

The girl is battling a malignant tumour of the sacrococcygeal region. At the same time, he faces complications of the disease, including kidney and bladder failure.

• Iga (10 years old), Ore Concentration Plant

She suffers from cerebral palsy, serious hearing impairment and severe mental retardation. She fights every day to become fit and more independent.
