27th edition of the KGHM Academy programme ‘School for Parents and Educators’

We prevent and teach - the cycle of the 27th edition of the educational programme ‘School for Parents and Educators’ carried out within the KGHM Academy by NGOs in the Copper Belt is coming to an end. Another year of activities has seen more than 300 beneficiaries of this recommended prevention project.

This is the fifth year of cooperation between KGHM and NGOs and local governments in the Copper Belt on preventive activities for the benefit of the population of the entire region.

The ‘School for Parents and Educators’ is a nationwide program aimed at preventing problematic behaviour in children and adolescents and raising the educational competence of parents and teachers. The project has positive recommendations from, among others, the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology, the National Bureau for Drug Prevention, the National Agency for Solving Alcohol Problems and the Centre for Education Development.

‘I believe that the School for Parents and Educators programme should be attended by every parent. This is because it is an opportunity to improve the educational competences needed to cope with the challenges of modern parenting. I hope I will also be able to benefit from the training series on raising siblings’, said one of the participants Katarzyna, a mother from Głogów.

The programme is open to parents, educators and professionals who work with parents and want to build valuable relationships with children and young people. The topics covered include learning the skills needed to recognise and talk about feelings, setting clear boundaries and demands, encouraging children to cooperate, supporting children’s independence, teaching them self-discipline, freeing them from role-playing and unfavourable labelling and strengthening their self-esteem. The School for Parents and Educators program takes the form of workshops lasting a total of 40 teaching hours and the group size is 10-12 people.

The 'School for Parents and Educators' project is one of the activities carried out as part of the KGHM Academy, which brings together various pro-social projects carried out for the benefit of the regions residents by:

• the Głogów Open Door Association - area of activity: city of Głogów and municipalities in the Głogów district;
• Imelda Association - area of activity: municipalities in the Polkowice, Lubin and Legnica districts;
• Union of Large Families 3+, unit in Legnica - area of activity: city of Legnica.

The purpose of the KGHM Academy is to promote pro-social programs and training for residents, NGOs and schools in the Copper Belt. Since 2020, more than 200 initiatives and programs have been implemented, such as the 'School for Parents and Educators', 'Leader 100', 'Treasure Archipelago', and 'Power Star’. To date, over 45,000 people have benefited from those projects. In 2023 alone, as many as 8,000 people benefited from the programmes.

This year’s activities carried out as part of the KGHM Academy included cities in the Copper Belt, but also Chojnów, Chocianów, Krotoszyce and towns in the Lubuskie Province, such as Sulechów, Wschowa and Szlichtyngowa.
