During the event, awards and prizes were given to individuals and institutions that have made particularly significant contribution to the promotion of Polish identity. The KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation was recognized for its support for the Eastern Charity Fund and the “Help Poles in the East Campaign” carried out by the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. The award was received by the Foundation’s President Helena Krupska.
Since 2017, the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation has supported more than a dozen projects related to the help provided to Poles in the East. The money was donated for such purposes as the renovation of historic churches in Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania, a subsidy for social activities intended for Poles living in the Grodno region of Belarus, as well as integration trips for children of Polish origin and language camps.
The “Help Poles in the East” Foundation was established in 1992 as a strategic Foundation of the State Treasury under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its main goal is “to provide assistance and support to the Polish community, Poles, and people of Polish descent living around the world, especially in the East.”
