On September 18, a gala to celebrate the 75th anniversary of "Gazeta Wrocławska" took place at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław. On the occasion of the anniversary, the "Filar Dolnego Śląska" award was established, awarded in three categories: politics, local government and economy. This is a special distinction for people and institutions "that positively influence the development of the voivodeship, support residents and can be an inspiration for others."
The statuette in the economy category went to KGHM Polska Miedź. "It is an enterprise that influences the identity of the region and contributes to its history. It is socially responsible and supports the local government and its residents," reads the words of the laudation.
The award was received on behalf of KGHM by the President of the Management Board, Tomasz Zdzikot, and the Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, Agnieszka Winnik-Kalemba.
– We are a global company, but our heart beats in the Copper Belt. That's why the "Filar gospodarczy Dolnego Śląska" award from Gazeta Wrocławska tastes special. KGHM's successes are the successes of the region, but also of the entire country. We ensure development, security and the future - said the president of Polska Miedź.
The copper giant is the largest employer in Lower Silesia, employing over 18.5 thousand. employees. The KGHM Group employs over 34,000 people.
KGHM supports the local governments of Dolny Śląsk in the form of earmarked donations and also as a tax payer. In total, nearly PLN 13.5 million has already gone to localities in the Copper Belt since 2020. Besides the donations, huge support for the Copper Belt region’s local governments is also provided by the taxes paid by KGHM. In 2022 it was more than PLN 300 million. Also, the amount of property tax was more than PLN 230 million. In addition, municipalities receive millions of PLN in support arising from agreements concerning new investment projects in the region.
During the gala, the award in the politics category was received by Elżbieta Witek - Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, and in the local government category by Cezary Przybylski - Marshal of the Dolnośląskie Voivodeship.
