“Cooperation with NGOs is very important for KGHM. It has resulted in the completion of many valuable projects, for both our employees and the local community. I have also worked for years in NGOs, so I am familiar with the challenges they face on a daily basis. I wish everyone further successful projects and hope that we will be able to continue our cooperation,” said Marek Makuch, chief director for human resources management at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., while receiving the award.
This year, KGHM donated to local governments in the Copper Belt region, among other things, PLN 3.5 million for projects including the implementation of preventive healthcare, as well as the construction of playgrounds and sports fields. The grants have also helped to upgrade rural community centers and recreational areas for local communities.
In cooperation with non-governmental organizations and local governments, KGHM also supports projects related to innovations in environmental protection and social programs, such as the “Miedź Rodzinę” foster parenting campaign. The total number of beneficiaries of all the prevention programs implemented at the region’s schools and other institutions has exceeded 25,000 people and includes students, parents, and teachers alike.
Huge support for the Copper Belt region’s local governments is also provided by the taxes paid by KGHM. In 2021, they amounted to more than PLN 500 million.
The conference “Partnership with NGOs gives super powers” was aimed to summarize this year’s activities carried out by NGO’s in the Copper Belt. The conference was attended by representatives of businesses, local governments, schools, and aid institutions.
