KGHM National Champion

Polityka Insight is a Centre for political and economic analysis in Poland. The Polityka Insight report is an original programme. It was created on the basis of a methodology that allows to classify the 50 largest Polish companies in four categories: international champions, national champions, local champions and aspiring companies.

What the national champions have in common is, above all, their great significance for the economy, understood as a high contribution to the economic and political potential of the country and their significant role in socio-economic development.

The national champions support the export power of the countries with their brand name and pave the way for smaller companies in foreign markets. The national champions build the competitiveness of national economies through investment in research, development and efficient management.

The authors of the report stress that apart from the size of companies, what is important is their efficiency, their role in the industry, their presence on the international market, or investment in development and innovation. Important features of national champions are: high salaries, high liquidity and sufficient solvency to pay their liabilities on time. The champions are companies that care about both sustainability and the well-being of employees and contractors.

According to the authors of the Polityka Insight report, KGHM's success is the result of a very high position achieved in each of the four categories (economy, industry, abroad and innovation) and a high importance for Polish economy - high added value, high salaries and high investments and payments to the state budget. The company is innovative, active abroad and a leader in its industry.

The authors of the report used publicly available information for 2016 on the business activities of Polish capital groups employing at least 100 people and with revenues exceeding PLN 1 billion. 44 Polish companies meeting the above criteria were assessed.
