KGHM received a special award during the 9th DISE Energy Congress for the "Energy Transformation Strategy". The prize was received during the gala by Mateusz Wodejko, Vice-President of KGHM for Finance.

During the 9th DISE Energy Congress in Wrocław, KGHM was among the winners of the Special Award for "Energy Transformation Strategies". The award jury appreciated the implementation of KGHM's energy development strategy, reducing the share of conventional energy and increasing the company's energy independence.

The copper company is running a number of projects to reduce gas emissions and diversify the company's energy sources. KGHM's targets are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 and to achieve complete climate neutrality by 2050. Over the next 7 years, the company will strive to meet 50% of the company's energy demand from own sources – including renewable energy sources.

In diversifying its electricity sources, KGHM is also betting on solar, wind and hydrogen power. In September 2023, KGHM has bought a portfolio of eight photovoltaic plants from Projekt Solartechnik, with a total capacity of nearly 50 MW.

As part of its energy transition, KGHM is developing wind and photovoltaic power plant projects on its own land, while also being active in acquiring companies with renewable energy installation projects in an advanced state of investment preparation or projects already in operation (both photovoltaic and wind).

In addition to the intensification of activities in the area of renewable energy, KGHM has also realised an important step towards the further development of nuclear power. The Ministry of Climate and Environment issued the basic decision for KGHM regarding the construction of a power plant based on small modular reactor (SMR) in Poland.

The 9th Energy Congress was held on September 27-28, 2023 in Wrocław under the motto "Energy transformation as a way out of the crisis". The Congress is a valued international forum for discussing the most important challenges for the Polish energy industry. The event is held annually with the participation of prominent figures from the energy sector from Poland and abroad; politicians, managers and scientists.
