Inspired by AI - students discover the future of technology
The conference is another initiative under the 'Competent in the Industry' programme supported by KGHM. Students from ten schools in the Copper Belt region had the opportunity to explore the topic of artificial intelligence.
‘Artificial intelligence is now one of the key topics touching almost every aspect of our lives - from education to social media and working life. It was important for us to organise this conference because we want our students to gain knowledge about tools that change the world’, said Magdalena Lipińska, general manager for human resources management at KGHM.
How is AI changing schools and young people’s lives?
The Polkowice school was visited by experts, including Jowita Michalska, the author of the book ‘School in the age of AI’ and founder of the Digital University, and Wojciech Kardyś, a digital marketing expert, who talked about the opportunities and threats of AI. Experts highlighted how these technologies can support the development of students and teachers. Other topics included virtual influencers and the challenges of cyber bullying and misinformation on social media.
Cyber security and online challenges
Wojciech Stankiewicz from the cyber security department of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. talked during the conference about the threats posed by hackers using AI. He highlighted how modern technologies can be used for illegal activities, warning young people of the dangers occurring on the Internet.
Cooperation and student involvement as the key to success
The cooperation between KGHM and the United Nations of Europe School Complex made it possible not only to organise the conference, but also to actively involve students in its preparation. Third-year students learning to become advertising technicians took charge of the audiovisual setting and hosted the event. Each presentation was accompanied by an online quiz. Students were able to test their knowledge and reflexes by answering questions about artificial intelligence. The best nine participants received gifts from KGHM.
