"We invite patron school students to join a unique project. We want the participants on the one hand to get to know KGHM and learn more about our activities, and on the other hand to strengthen their skills. Technical professions are the future, and qualified and motivated employees are a priceless resource for us - said Magdalena Wróbel, chief director for human resources management at KGHM, during the inauguration of the project.
Fun and learning with KGHM
The KGHM campaign is also supported by the Ministry of Education and Science, which has taken the event under its patronage.
"I am attentively following the activities of KGHM in the Copper Belt related to vocational education. Such facilities must be attractive and, above all, effective. Therefore, all kinds of support, including educational programmes for pupils, are much needed solutions. The most important thing is to cooperate in order to anticipate which competences will be useful for students in a particular region. KGHM is the largest employer in Lower Silesia, so professions related to the copper industry deserve special attention. We need to plan the future of young people responsibly and in line with labour market needs," said Marzena Machałek, Deputy Minister of Education and Science.
A virtual space adventure of several months awaits the students, in a planetary system that is twin to the Earth's. The Copper universe will be filled with KGHM-related themes and tasks. Participants will carry out missions concerning, among others, knowledge of the Company's ecological investments, mining and smelting traditions or copper production itself.
Interested students will be given access to a special online platform where they will be able to demonstrate their knowledge about the Copper Company. There are weekly missions prepared for participants, for the completion of which they will receive points. Each completed task will be rewarded with a prize (a KGHM gadget, multimedia equipment, visits to Company departments). Participants in the project will work for their individual score, but also for the score of individual schools. The best-scoring schools will receive an additional award from KGHM at the end of the school year.
The platform with the game for patron school students will be available from mid-February to mid-June. Nearly 2 thousand young people from the Copper Belt can take part in the game. We invite you to watch a short film announcing the event:

Build competencies with KGHM
The KGHM programme "Competent in the Industry" has been in operation since 2018 and 9 technical and trade schools are covered, among others in Lubin, Legnica and Polkowice. The establishments educate students in professions relevant to the copper industry. The programme involves close cooperation between the school and KGHM. Students can count on substantial assistance from the Company, they are involved in various development projects and, above all, they can benefit from a scholarship programme dedicated to them and the opportunity to undergo practical vocational training.
It is worth emphasising that the professions in which students are educated at KGHM's patron schools are on the list of those in demand on the domestic labour market. The list of the most desired professions is prepared annually by the Ministry of Education and Science.
