Głogów and Legnica smelters were awarded the Copper Mark distinction. Two departments of KGHM can benefit from a certificate confirming efficient copper production in accordance with the highest standards. The Copper Mark was established on the initiative of the International Copper Association and its member companies.

Copper Mark is a guarantee scheme that promotes responsible production of red metal. Thus, the smelters owned by Polish copper giant joined the elite group of just a few companies from around the world which have the right to use the Copper Mark.

"The award confirms that Polish Copper smelters meet the highest global standards. In line with our company strategy, we are constantly improving our production processes, which has also been recognised. We meet environmental standards, apply responsible production practices and can pride ourselves on our excellent cooperation with stakeholders and local communities", said Marcin Chludziński, CEO of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

Paweł Gruza, Vice President of the Management Board of KGHM, adds that obtaining the Copper Mark will strengthen the already high brand of KGHM's products, including the copper cathodes sold. "I congratulate the smelters and all the employees who persistently work for such successes", added Paweł Gruza.

Głogów and Legnica smelters joined the Copper Mark programme in 2020. For many months international experts checked the compliance of the business processes of KGHM's departments with the 32 criteria for awarding the distinction. Measures taken into account included environmental protection, the metals supply chain, working conditions, risk management practices or cooperation with local communities.

The Copper Mark is an international system to ensure responsible copper production. It is a voluntary programme for industrial sector companies that have a chance to receive a kind of quality certificate. Entities that successfully pass the verification can use the mark in their corporate publications, in contracts or on copper products.

The Copper Mark system provides reliable information on the procedures and production rules of companies in the mining industry. The distinction is a signal to, among others, investors or companies using copper in their products that plants with such a brand are a reliable and responsible business partner.
