Stanisław Staszic 1st School Complex in Wschowa is joining KGHM’s educational program “Competent in the Mining and Metallurgical Industry. KGHM - a key partner in vocational training.” Today, at KGHM’s headquarters in Lubin, an agreement on the matter was signed. This means that a total of 10 schools in the Copper Belt and the Lubuskie Province are now sponsored by KGHM.
KGHM’s sponsorship has been extended to the trade of electrical technician, which can be learned at the Wschowa School Complex.
“We are committed to ensuring that students are well-prepared professionally to enter the job market as our graduates. Thanks to all the activities we offer them, I am convinced that they have the time to both acquire the competencies of the future and to get to know KGHM as a future employer with all the advantages and benefits of employment in our organization,” says Marek Makuch, the Managing Director for Human Resources Management at KGHM.
“A modern school that provides vocational education must be a school of the future that responds adequately to the challenges of the labor market. And the high quality of vocational education is influenced precisely by effective cooperation with employers. KGHM’s sponsorship is an opportunity for our students to gain additional experience and better match the needs of the job market. It will also help deepen and acquire new knowledge, skills, and professional competence in real working conditions. For our graduates, this is a chance to get an attractive job in KGHM’s divisions,” added Piotr Wieland, the director of the School Complex in Wschowa.
The objective of KGHM’s “Competent in the Industry” program is to properly prepare graduates of technical and vocational schools for employment at the company. Cooperation is established with those educational institutions that provide education relevant from the standpoint of the copper industry, such as underground mining technician, mechatronics technician, metallurgical technician, and electrical technician.
Students in the sponsored classes have the opportunity to complete internships and practical classes at KGHM divisions, compete against each other in a scholarship program, but are also invited to participate in sports activities or subject-specific excursions.
Since 2018, when the program was launched, nearly 400 students have found jobs at KGHM. Each graduate of a sponsored class receives a relevant certificate with information about the internships completed or scholarships received as part of the “Competent in the Industry” program.
A total of more than 2,000 students are being educated in classes sponsored by KGHM.
