27 thousand protective packs: masks and disinfectant fluids and information brochures have reached, or will reach in the coming days, the elderly of Lower Silesia and Lubuskie Voivodship - these are subsequent actions taken by KGHM as part of the Solidarity Senior Assistance Corps.
"The copper giant supports seniors and single people as part of a government programme. We know that such assistance is particularly valuable now. During the pandemic, when there are health care challenges and isolation, seniors can count on support and a good word from our volunteers," said Lidia Marcinkowska-Bartkowiak, chief communications officer at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
KGHM protects the elderly
The parcels containing the protective equipment will be delivered, among others, to seniors cared for by Caritas volunteers from Wrocław, Legnica, Świdnica and Zielona Góra. Support will also be provided to beneficiaries of local government welfare centres in the Copper Belt.
In addition to masks and disinfectant liquids, seniors have also received leaflets with essential information on, among others, behaviour during a pandemic and ideas for spending leisure time. Information is also available on the website prepared by KGHM, dedicated to seniors https://zdrowie.kghm.com/kghm-seniorom/.
The Company cares for and supports
KGHM, in cooperation with organisations caring for the elderly, responds to their needs on an ongoing basis. The Company's volunteers prepare, among others, food aid parcels. The copper company has already donated over PLN 400 thousand for the assistance. The food packages contain the most needed products, mainly long-life food. This is crucial as during the pandemic it is quite difficult to do shopping and may be also risky for one's health.
The Company acts strategically
The strategy of the KGHM for 2019-2023 is implemented on the basis of the idea of sustainable development and strengthening social responsibility. In the face of the threat of a COVID-19 pandemic the Company introduced a number of procedures and activities to support employees and residents of the Copper Belt. This includes activities related to assistance for senior citizens or people in need of care in the region.
