The official signing of agreements between KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and local governments took place during a seminar entitled "Climate policy, economic and environmental aspects of the use of aggregates in the Copper Belt" organised at the head office of KGHM in Lubin. The event was co-organised, apart from the copper company, by the Polish Copper Employers' Union.
"We are the region's number one employer and support local communities in many ways. For years, local government budgets have received millions from the taxes we pay, we sponsor local sports clubs, we enter into agreements and cooperate with municipalities where we operate. Together, we care for a higher quality of life for the inhabitants of the Copper Belt", said Andrzej Kensbok, Vice President of the Management Board of KGHM for Finance.
During the seminar, public consultations were also held with local government officials on the climate policy being prepared by KGHM.
"The voice of our neighbours, the people of the Copper Belt and the local authorities is very important to us. For KGHM, responsibility for the environment is not an empty slogan. The climate policy being prepared in KGHM will respond to the needs of our stakeholders, but will also clearly define our goals and objectives in this area," added Andrzej Kensbok.
The climate policy being prepared at KGHM will be the Company's response to the challenges of climate change, and one of its main elements will be the setting of targets for reduction in CO2 emissions.
