KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and representatives of 10 schools in Lower Silesia celebrated the upcoming National Education Day together. Their meeting was also an opportunity to discuss cooperation within the framework of the 8th edition of the ‘Competent in the Industry’ programme in accordance with recently concluded agreements. In the 2025/26 school year, KGHM will support the education of young people based on knowledge and technologies important for the development of the copper industry in Poland. The programme is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

Celebrating KGHM's cooperation with schools

Representatives of 10 schools from Bolesławiec, Chocianów, Wschowa, Polkowice, Legnica, Lubin and Głogów met with KGHM’s representatives to jointly celebrate National Education Day. Among other things, the participants discussed cooperation, future events within the framework of the ‘Competent in the Industry’ programme and the recently concluded agreements. They guarantee that more than 2,300 students from the region will be able to participate in KGHM’s programme in this school year.

‘KGHM has been supporting the professional development of people in our region for many years, in initiatives intended for both young people and adults. ‘Competent in the industry’ is our flagship programme, which I am very proud of. Our students have access to teaching materials, apprenticeship opportunities and professionally equipped teaching laboratories. We award scholarships to the best students, in recognition of their willingness to acquire knowledge, excellent academic results and commitment’, said Magdalena Lipińska, Executive Director for Human Resource Management at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. ‘Thanks to this initiative, 545 graduates have already found employment at KGHM Divisions. Our young people are the future of KGHM, and their development is important not only for us, but also for our entire region’, she added.

The youth are the future, also at KGHM

The ‘Competent in the Industry’ programme offers many benefits to the students of classes sponsored by the KGHM, including the possibility of participating in apprenticeships, receiving a scholarship for special achievements or an offer of employment at KGHM in the form of an internship programme. As part of its efforts to encourage young people to choose KGHM as their first employer after graduation, the company also organises training courses on how to properly prepare for a job search, write a resume and participate in a recruitment process. As a result, graduates of the programme can plan their academic and professional careers more consciously. Each graduate of the ‘Competent in the Industry’ programme receives a document from the school confirming completion of the sponsored class, which is an important advantage when applying for a job at the company. In addition, students of sponsored classes participate every year in sporting and educational events organised by KGHM, such as the ‘Competent Gilbert’ mining and metallurgy knowledge contest and the Competent football championship.

In 10 schools in Lower Silesia (Lubin, Legnica, Polkowice, Chocianów, Bolesławiec, Głogów and Wschowa), 2,318 students study in patronage classes. The trades that KGHM promotes are closely linked to the employment needs of the company's divisions. The supported schools teach 15 technical professions in the areas of mining, metallurgy, electrical engineering, mechatronics and automation, among others.
