For years, KGHM has been among the highest-rated companies in terms of the quality of its annual reporting. Having won the three key awards between 2007 and 2009, in 2010 KGHM became the first company to be awarded the title of ‘The Best of The Best’, which is granted to firms that maintain high standards of reporting and communication with the capital market. The award, presented for the sixteenth time this year, confirms that KGHM consistently maintains a very high standard of reporting and communication with the capital market.
Top-quality reporting
KGHM received the highest rating among the repeat winners, securing the ‘The Best of The Best Diamond’ award. The company also received its first-ever award for its statement on the application of corporate governance principles, which is an important part of the information provided to shareholders and investors.
‘For us, reliable reporting is more than just a disclosure obligation – it is the foundation of investor trust and the responsible creation of value at KGHM. Given the scale of our operations, which encompass mining and metallurgical activities across three continents, it is essential to present a comprehensive picture of the Company: from financial results and operational performance to investments, and long-term development strategies. That is why we focus not on the volume of data presented, but on its clarity, consistency and usefulness. We want investors to be able to make a reliable assessment, on this basis, of both KGHM’s current situation and its prospects’, said Piotr Krzyżewski, Vice-President of the Management Board for Finance at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
KGHM’s reporting reflects the scale and complexity of the Group’s operations in Poland and North and South America. It covers financial results, production and investment projects, as well as factors affecting mining and metallurgical operations. Environmental, social and corporate governance issues form an important part of reporting. The documents also set out the Group’s long-term development strategies, including investments in its domestic resource base and foreign assets.
With stakeholders in mind
The Best Annual Report is a competition that promotes annual reports with the greatest usefulness for shareholders and investors. Every year, the competition involves companies from the regulated market preparing consolidated annual reports according to the IFRS/IAS and companies from the alternative market reporting according to the IFRS/IAS or the Accounting Act. Comprising capital market experts, the Award Committee assesses the reports in terms of not only the application of accounting principles, but also the description of risks and the selection of information and data in the report, while ensuring the transparency and usefulness of the information.
