The courage to pursue your dreams
KGHM, as a socially responsible company, recognises the growing need to support the development of young female athletes. Given the growing popularity of women's sport and general social trends, the company wants to create space for the development of female athletes and provide them with the necessary support to achieve success. The aim of the recently launched sponsorship programme for Polish female athletes is to level the playing field and inspire women to develop their talents and discover their potential.
‘In creating the KGHM Female Sports Champions programme, we wanted to reach the most promising Polish female athletes and help them develop their full potential. At this stage of the pilot programme, we selected six outstanding women who are at different stages of their careers and who practice a variety of sports’, said Anna Smycz-Michalak, Chief Communication Officer of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. ‘For the first time in its history, KGHM is so actively supporting young talented female athletes in the pursuit of their dreams and passions in life. Through our Programme, we want to inspire new generations of future female champions and leaders by setting examples worthy of following’, she added.
Women’s strength!
Strength plays a key role in sport: not only the strength of muscles, but also of the spirit. Thanks to the ‘KGHM Female Sports Champions’ programme, a space has been created where the passion, determination and talent of women in sport can truly flourish. Supporting female athletes is not only about promoting the idea of equality, but also about making a real contribution to the better performance of the Polish national teams in the global sporting arena. At the most recent Olympic Games, women won as many as eight of the 10 medals won by Polish athletes.
Despite the tremendous success of women, there is still a disparity in earnings in men's and women's sport due to less interest from sponsors. As a result, it is more difficult for women to excel in international arenas, especially in disciplines that are perceived as 'masculine'. KGHM wants not only to support female athletes by giving them the courage to pursue their dreams and succeed, but also to draw attention to the significant challenges women face.
Sport evokes emotion, but it also shapes character. It involves values that are close to KGHM: cooperation, courage, safety, responsibility and result-orientation. As a company, we want to accompany the athletes and support them on their way to achieving their goals, to help them succeed.
