“The Russian aggression against Ukraine has created new security challenges for us, including the need to assess current and future threats. This is why we need community-building activities and respect for military service even more. KGHM is a company with values and traditions deeply embedded in its DNA, and we can always count on our staff, whether in volunteer or social campaigns,” said Tomasz Zdzikot, the CEO of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
“Veterans of military missions abroad have risked their lives and health performing tasks that affected Poland’s security. History has shown that our engagement resulting from our obligations as a member of NATO, the European Union, and the United Nations brings tangible results by improving Poland’s standing on the international stage. We owe the veterans respect and support. KGHM supports veterans and can count on their reciprocity,” added Maj. Katarzyna Rzadkowska, PhD. director of the Center for Veterans of Operations Outside National Borders.
The signatories of the letter will carry out joint educational and sports initiatives, as well as popularize knowledge about the participation of uniformed personnel and veterans in activities outside the Poland’s borders. The plans include training and meetings with veterans, as well as projects to integrate the veteran community and their families.
Already in autumn this year, KGHM and the Center will organize a Peace Run in the Copper Belt to mark the 70th anniversary of the first participation of the Polish Armed Forces in international missions, in which more than 120,000 military personnel and soldiers have taken part to date.
KGHM mines copper ores and other valuable metals in underground mines, with deposits located as deep as 1,000 meters below the ground level. The mined material is supplied to the company’s smelters and processing plants. Safety is KGHM’s priority and core value with regard to its employees, the environment, as well as local communities. The company promotes a culture of safe work based on employee training and implementation of innovative technologies and safety management systems.
KGHM is also involved in local initiatives related to the promotion of volunteerism or pro-social initiatives, including in the area of safety, for the residents of the Copper Belt and all of Poland.
