One of the talented athletes who have received support from KGHM is Natalia Kochańska who specializes in rifle shooting. At last year’s European Games, she won a silver medal in the three-position rifle competition. At the Polish Cup Final in Wrocław, she enlarged her collection with a bronze medal in the MiX air rifle competition. Natalia Kochańska will represent Poland at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. At least five KGHM grant recipients - Karolina Naja, Wojciech Nowicki, Anna Puławska, Dominika Putto, and Michal Siess - are hoping to participate in prestigious competitions.
One of the talented athletes participating in the “Miedziane Rywalizacje” program is Aleksandra Lisowska, who specializes in long-distance running. She was Poland’s representative at the Games of the XXXII Olympiad - Tokyo 2020 - in the marathon. She ended last year with a huge success: during the Valencia Marathon she broke Poland’s record set 22 years ago. As of December 3, the record time is 2:25.52.
Kickboxer Adrian Durma has also had an excellent year: in the Polish Military and Uniformed Services Championships in Żyrardów, he won first place in two disciplines: Pointfighting and Kick Light. Another recipient of KGHM’s grant, Maciej Gładysz, will continue his sports career as a racing driver in Formula 4 competitions during this season.
It is also worth recalling that another grant recipient, Wojciech Nowicki, one of the more talented athletes who practices the hammer throw, took sixth place in the most recent, 89th Poll of “Przeglad Sportowy” and Polsat Television for the Best Athlete of the Year 2023.
“The ‘Miedziane Inwestycje’ program is excellent idea and our grant recipients only confirm this. Importantly, the project is intended for highly talented athletes who have already achieved great success, but also those who are just at the beginning of their careers. KGHM is also very much involved in supporting professional and amateur team sports,” said Sylwia Jurgiel, the spokesperson for KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
KGHM engages its grant recipients in employee volunteering and corporate social responsibility activities. The athletes encourage residents of the Copper Belt to live an active lifestyle.
The “Miedziane Rywalizacje” grant recipients benefit from KGHM’s financial support for their career development. The grants are awarded to athletes for outstanding sports achievements and systematic work on gaining and achieving better results in their disciplines. Direct funding for talented athletes is an important part of KGHM’s development strategy and corporate social responsibility activities. The grant program has been in place since 2019.
In addition to its own grant program, KGHM is an active patron of Polish sports. The company sponsors important events related to physical activity at the local, national, and international levels. KGHM is the main sponsor and owner of the KGHM Zagłębie Lubin football club. It provides financial support to professional volleyball and basketball clubs, as well as amateur teams.
