One AED has already been purchased by the first schools, including the School Complex in Chocianów, to potentially save lives.
We are pleased that KGHM prioritises the safety of our students and employees. But not only that. As the device is situated in a publicly accessible location, specifically on the ground floor of the school hall, it will be available for use not only by our school community of almost 800 individuals but also by anyone in close proximity who requires assistance. This is extremely important, says Piotr Machoń, director of ZS in Chocianów.
AEDs are very intuitive. They simply instruct the user what steps should be taken sequentially. In addition to providing financial support for schools, KGHM will offer additional training on equipment usage.
At the start of the new year, when all schools have their devices, we plan to collaborate with the KGHM branch and the Mining and Metallurgy Rescue Unit to conduct first aid workshops. Sylwia Jurgiel, a spokesperson for KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., emphasises the importance of regularly updating and practising knowledge and practical skills in this area, as they may prove useful at any time.
KGHM rescuers have visited schools and events organized for students of patronage classes multiple times. They share their experiences and teach students how to deal with an injured person, as well as raise awareness about the importance of taking action before medical services arrive. They also specified the necessary equipment for schools to meet the highest safety and effectiveness standards.
The objective of KGHM’s “Competent in the Industry” program is to properly prepare graduates of technical and vocational schools for employment at the company. Cooperation is established with those educational institutions that provide education relevant from the standpoint of the copper industry, such as underground mining technician, mechatronics technician, metallurgical technician, and electrical technician.
Students in the sponsored classes have the opportunity to complete internships and practical classes at KGHM divisions, compete against each other in a scholarship program, but are also invited to participate in sports activities or subject-specific excursions.
