KGHM and the Solidarity Senior Support Service - we are active in Lower Silesia

Tuesday, 24 November, 2020
Packets with aid, meals, protective measures - KGHM is involved in the activities of the Solidarity Senior Support Service. The Company's employees, in cooperation with social welfare institutions and Caritas, respond on an ongoing basis to the needs of older people across the region. KGHM has allocated nearly PLN 400 000 to support the activities of volunteers.

KGHM, together with regional Social Assistance Centres, Caritas and local organisations, has planned measures to increase the safety and comfort of the elderly in Lower Silesia. This week alone, KGHM volunteers will visit Głogów, Chojnów and Chocianów, among others. The Company's employees and local organisations supported by KGHM will prepare and hand over food packages and distribute hot meals.

Aid in figures

The total involvement of KGHM in Solidarity Senior Support Service has so far amounted to over PLN 380 thousand. Over 28 000 older people in the region will receive assistance.

- We have prepared a comprehensive support package for older people in Lower Silesia. In coordination with government representatives, local authorities and social workers, we have carried out detailed needs analyses to make sure that the aid is really effective. The Senior Support Service is one of the most important government initiatives operating nationwide. It helps the most vulnerable members of our communities to withstand isolation. It shows full responsibility for the elderly and is a test of our intergenerational solidarity. We are fully committed to support this initiative. I wish to thank you all the volunteers for their participation - says Marcin Chludziński, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

Support and actions

The KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. Foundation provides funds for assistance centres in the region, inter alia, to purchase food products. These activities are supported by the Company's volunteers, who are actively involved in the preparation and distribution of the individual gifts. In November, the KGHM Foundation provided support to four Caritas units: the Archdiocese of Wrocław, the Diocese of Legnica, the Diocese of Świdnica and the Diocese of Zielona Góra and Gorzów. Last week nearly 400 food packets were delivered to senior citizens in Wrocław and the surrounding area, among others.

The packages contain the most needed products, mainly long-life food. This is crucial as during the pandemic it is quite difficult to do shopping and may be also risky for one's health.

Very soon, KGHM will supply nearly 27 000 packages to elderly people in need, containing Nitrosept disinfectant, masks and an information leaflet on healthy behaviours during the pandemic. The caregivers of senior citizens will receive packages with medical visors and disinfectants.

For better health and mood

In cooperation with local NGOs from Chojnów, Lubin and Głogów, KGHM volunteers will prepare packages for senior citizens. The gifts will include not only vitamin C products to improve immunity, but also sweets and Christmas greetings cards.

The Company has launched a new section dedicated to the elderly at its 'zdrowie.kghm.com' website. All those Interested people will find there advice and tips on how to survive the pandemic in good health, as well as many suggestions: short films with instructions on how to take care of one' health and well-being, eating habits while in isolation, as well as courses, cultural opportunities and involvement in volunteering.
