RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION
The signed agreement is not only a substantial commercial understanding – it is likewise an important signal that Polish industry is based on partnerships built on local skills, experience and trust. Thanks to the commitment of two domestic companies, this project is a pillar of the domestic supply chain and of the strategy of promoting so-called local content, which is crucial for responsible economic development.
The metallurgical facilities of KGHM produce metals responsibly and in accordance with the highest standards. The copper smelters and refineries of KGHM in Głogów and Legnica as well as its Cedynia wire rod plant hold the Copper Mark certificate, which attests to the responsible manner of their operations as regards the natural environment, employees, local communities and corporate governance. The company ensures the safe supply of metals vital for the global energy transformation, through its access to primary copper deposits.
In 2024 the Cedynia Wire Rod Plant was entirely supplied with electricity generated by renewable energy sources (RES) belonging to the Copper Company. The carbon footprint of the copper wire rod produced by KGHM is substantially lower than the global average of such indicators and amounts to 2.3 t CO2 eq./t Cu.
HIGHEST QUALITY
8 mm copper wire rod is one of the main products of KGHM. It arises in the Contirod® process of continuous melting, casting and drawing, mainly from the use of the Company’s own cathodes, produced by the Divisions of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. The Cedynia Wire Rod Plant produces wire rod in five classes of quality, depending on the needs of the customer. The product is primarily used in the cable, electromechanical and electrotechnical industries. In 2024, production of wire rod and cables by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. amounted to 287.2 thousand tonnes, making the Company a leading European producer of these copper semi-products.
A WORLD LEADER
KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. is an integrated producer of copper, with its own mineral resources, mines, metallurgical plants and copper wire rod production facilities. The company is the largest producer of copper in Europe and is amongst the elite top-10 largest producers in the world. According to the World Silver Survey 2025 the company holds second place in the global ranking of the largest silver producers. Tele-Fonika Kable S.A. is a global leader in the production of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage (HV and EHV) cables for the renewable energy sector, with particular emphasis on wind power. The company also offers average- and low voltage cables, including halogen-free, fireproof, telecommunications and fiber optic cables. Modern R&D centres enable full qualification and technological testing to be performed.
Since 2017 the TFKable Group includes JDR Cable Systems Ltd., which specialises in the production of underwater cables for the renewable energy sector. Combining the expertise of TFKable and JDR has enhanced the Group’s production capacity, enabling the supply of all offshore wind farms in Poland as well as numerous investments on the international market. The cooperation of both companies goes back to 2008 and comprises among others the supply of 33 kV and 66 kV cables, the development of 132 kV cable technology and of underwater high voltage alternating current cables (HV AC) and high voltage direct current cables (HV DC) for export.
