- KGHM, the leader of the Polish economy, conducts its business with respect for tradition and history, referring to the experience of past generations. The participants in the Warsaw Rising - men and women, young people and children - gave us all a lesson in extraordinary courage and sacrifice for the country. We will honour their memory with our involvement in the commemorations - said Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
Tomasz Zdzikot added that on 1 August, flags will be half lowered at KGHM's divisions, and at the Mine-Smelter Rescue Units in Sobin, Legnica, Lubin and Głogów, alarm bells will be sounded at the W Hour to commemorate the anniversary. The CEO of KGHM is encouraging employees and residents of the Copper Belt to stop at 17:00 to honour the Warsaw Insurgents in this way.
KGHM, as it did last year, also invites the people of Warsaw to travel to the past in a special double-decker bus. Between 30 July and 1 August, the bus will visit the most important points on the insurgent map. Passengers will be able to learn about the history of the Warsaw Uprising and the sites of the heroic battles. Importantly, the bus ride will be completely free of charge. Eight points are planned along the route, including: Monument to the Little Insurgent, Building of the famous PAST or St. Kinga's Fortress - a total of 20 km of the route.
We will start at the bus stop located in the immediate vicinity of the Warsaw Uprising Monument at Pl. Krasińskich, and end at the Warsaw Uprising Museum. In addition, at selected hours there will be rides with the heroes of those days.
In the Copper Belt, on 1 August, branch buildings will be illuminated in white and red, and a symbol of the event - the insurgent anchor - will appear on the copper company's headquarters building.
As part of KGHM's cooperation with the Warsaw Uprising Museum, an open-air game for families and children along the Warsaw Uprising trail is planned. During the celebrations, it will be possible to visit a promotional stand of the copper company with commemorative gadgets. Volunteers of the copper company, will be handing out a pin in the shape of an anchor especially produced for the event.
KGHM is also inviting the inhabitants of the Copper Belt to participate in the VI W-Hour Run in the Forest Park in Lubin. A highlight of the event is the participation of re-enactment groups to bring the participants closer to the realities of the Warsaw Uprising.
In addition to pursuing its business objectives, the copper giant is strongly committed to initiatives related to Polish traditions and history. KGHM is involved in national celebrations and regional events connected with the history of the Copper Belt.
