General opinion of the National Atomic Energy Agency

The President of the National Atomic Energy Agency (NAEA) has issued a general opinion on selected technical assumptions for the NuScale NPM-20 reactor technology. The NAEA verified the compliance of selected technical assumptions of the indicated reactor technology with Polish nuclear safety requirements at the request of KGHM. The general opinion of the NAEA President is a tool for dialogue between the nuclear regulatory authority and the applicant. The use of this technology has expanded KGHM's competences in the area of nuclear energy and will contribute to the more efficient implementation of SMR technology in Poland.

KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. is the second investor in a nuclear power plant in Poland and the first to plan the construction of a small modular nuclear (SMR) power plant. In July of this year, the company received a basic decision from the Minister of Climate and Environment, which covered several reactor technologies, including NuScale Power, LLC's reactor technology. The initial administrative decision an investor can apply for, in the system of permits and approvals, is the received basic decision. It expresses the state's acceptance of the presented investment intention for constructing a nuclear energy facility.
