Every year for over a decade, KGHM has been submitting new initiatives to the Responsible Business Forum's Good Practices Report, primarily with the aim of inspiring other companies to implement similar projects. Four new projects have been included in the prestigious list of CSR activities of companies in Poland.
So far, the authors of the Report have recognised 24 KGHM initiatives, qualifying them as ‘Good Practices’. This year's edition includes four new projects: a gift for the birth of a child, the KGHM Readers' Club, campaigns promoting preventive medical examinations, and Mie(dź) Rodzinę (Have a Family).
‘In our CSR activities, we focus on community involvement and development, preventive healthcare, employee volunteering, charitable initiatives, physical activity, and projects aimed at families. We are building a culture of responsibility, which is key to every area of our business,' said Anna Smycz-Michalak, Active Executive Director for Communication at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
Gift for the birth of a child
The birth of a child is a special occasion – to celebrate it together with the new parents, KGHM presents a gift package. In addition to useful gadgets, the CUdowny maluszek (Wonderful Baby) receives a special copper pendant on a silver chain, which refers to the Company's core activity – a leader in copper and silver production. In December last year, after almost five years of the campaign, KGHM celebrated the birth of its 2,000th employee's child. Through this initiative, the Company shows that it cherishes the family values of its employees and strengthens their sense of connection with the copper company.
KGHM Reader’s Club
An initiative to promote reading, which included a book collection to give books a second life, reading competitions and the continuation of the Mie(dź) apetyt na czytanie (Have an Appetite for Reading) campaign to promote reading and book borrowing.
Campaigns promoting preventive medical examinations
Every year, KGHM is involved in promoting cancer prevention during the Różowy Październik (Pink October) and Wąsopad (Movember, also known as Moustache Month or Blue November) campaigns. Activities organised among employees raise awareness of health issues affecting women and men and cancer prevention (e.g., by encouraging people to undergo medical examinations). All branches of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. took part in the promotional campaigns, which were also supported by, for example, players from sports teams in the Copper Basin.
Mie(dź) Rodzinę (Have a Family) campaign
Together with local authorities and aid organisations, KGHM organised numerous activities promoting and supporting foster parenting in the region, including funding for programmes to improve parenting skills as part of the KGHM Academy and holiday trips for children in foster care. In addition, as part of the World Foster Day celebrations, a family rally was organised in Polana Jakuszycka in cooperation with the Bieg Piastów Association. Through these activities, the Company tries to raise awareness about foster parenting. Thanks to these campaigns, residents and employees have become more aware about the scale of the need for foster care for children in the Copper Basin and beyond.
KGHM's activities are therefore focused on achieving sustainable development goals – less inequality, good health and quality of life, climate action, zero hunger, gender equality, sustainable cities and communities, and quality education.
