Convocation of the Management Meeting (MM) for the “Głogów” Copper Smelter and Refinery Forests

KGHM’s “Głogów” Copper Smelter and Refinery Division has convened a Management Meeting to draw up a forest management plan for areas owned by the State Treasury and held in perpetual usufruct by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., “Głogów” Copper Smelter and Refinery Division, and a simplified forest management plan for forests owned by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., “Głogów” Copper Smelter and Refinery Division.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on March 26 at 10:00 a.m., in the main building of the “Głogów” Smelter and Refinery at 1 Żukowicka Street in Głogów.

Below is the planned course of the Management Meeting:

Time: 10:00 - 10:15 a.m. Opening of the meeting and discussion of the purpose of the meeting, presentation of the subject matter of the meeting

Time: 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. A presentation of the entity preparing the management documentation. The presentation will concern:

a) information on the basic assumptions of the region’s spatial management policies on forest management and nature protection, taking into account regional development strategies and regional environmental protection programs;

b) basic information on forest management carried out by the “Głogów’ Copper Smelter and Refinery Division, cooperation with local governments and other entities;

c) environmental, educational, tourist, infrastructural, scientific, and other activities and projects carried out by the “Głogów” Copper Smelter and Refiner Division;

d) information on the forms of nature protection and functions of the forest, with particular attention to Natura 2000 areas, nature reserves designated on land owned by the “Głogów” Copper Smelter and Refinery Division;

e) fire protection in forests;

f) determination of the need to identify areas at risk of damage: on former agricultural land, caused by game, insects, fungi, mistletoe, beavers, industry, etc.;

g) presentation of information on the inventories and studies on forest soils, phytosociology, natural habitats, inventory of dead tree resources, data on the target road network, the concept of water management in the forest (e.g., in areas not yet covered by these works), and proposals for their completion;

h) the proposed division into holdings with a discussion of the principles for distinguishing them;

i) the adopted method of inventory of timber resources (the representative method or the ALS method);

j) proposals for tree stand types (ST) and types of felling for specific forest habitat types and forest natural habitats;

k) proposals to adopt average felling ages for individual forest tree species;

l) taking into account the appropriate economic conduct on the study plots;

m) information required in the forecast of the impact of the draft forest management plan on the environment on the basis of the agreement with the Regional Directorate of Environmental Protection under the Act on the provision of information on the environment and its protection, public participation in environmental protection, and environmental impact assessments;

n) information on public participation and the next steps in the development of the draft forest management plan.

Time: 11:15 - 11.45 a.m. A presentation by an Expert in forest protection, including information, in particular with recorded damage caused by biotic and abiotic factors (winds, hailstorms, snowfall, fires, mistletoe, insects, fungal pathogens, deer, etc.), along with an assessment of the stability of tree stands of the “Głogów” Copper Smelter and Refinery Division;

Time: 11.45 a.m. - 12.15 p.m. Coffee break;

Time: 12:15 - 1:00 p.m. Discussion with the participation of the Local Cooperation Team (LCT) on the issues in question, including in particular:

a) the presented assumptions for the draft forest management plan;

b) proposals to distinguish areas of special importance to the local community;

c) needs in terms of development for tourism purposes.

Within 30 days after the meeting, minutes will be drawn up from the Management Meeting, which will include information and arrangements on the issues discussed at the MM, along with a list of attendees and the opinion of the LCT. The minutes will be made public.
