In September of this year, KGHM volunteers helped move the wards of the Friends of Children School and Educational Center in Szklary and the Group of Schools and Educational Institutions in Lubin. In October, the two institutions merged to form the School and Educational Center in Lubin. The planting campaign is another joint event involving employees of the KGHM division, the Ore Enrichment Plants.
Several hundred coniferous and deciduous trees, as well as rose bushes have appeared at the center in Lubin. The campaign aims to help the wards settle into their new premises and let them feel at home.
The event was attended by Mirosław Kidoń, KGHM’s vice-president for foreign assets and acting vice-president for development, who emphasized “pride in KGHM volunteers who have been working with the center’s wards for many years.”
“Volunteer actions are an important part of KGHM’s pro-social activities in the Copper Belt. In total, in 2022, it was possible to carry out fund collections for the needy, social initiatives related to, for example, the promotion of foster parenting, and projects promoting an active lifestyle. KGHM’s volunteers are always visible where the most important things for the region are happening,” said Mirosław Kidoń.
KGHM’s volunteers have been working with the School and Educational Center for about three years. It is a center for children with disabilities, both mental and physical, which accepts only those with special certificates. During that time, volunteers from ORPs have organized various projects for the wards, for example KGHM the funny way, St. Barbara, Copper Children; they also showed the production process carried out at the company.
In April, an Integration Sports Olympics was also organized for the wards of that facility and the Special Elementary School No. 6 in Lubin. In total, nearly 200 students participated in the event. They competed in 10 events, including shots into the goal, bowling, javelin throw, and slalom with a ball.
